Private Delphi Tours from Athens & Multi-Day Trips
We have been taking travelers to Delphi since 2010. You can see it on a private Delphi day tour from Athens, or as one stop on a longer private trip that adds Meteora, Ancient Olympia or the Peloponnese.
Trusted by Our Guests
Our private Delphi day tour is rated 4.9/5 by the travelers who have taken it, and many of them mention the same two things: the extra time at the site and the lunch at the olive farm.

What to See at the Archaeological Site of Delphi
The Sacred Way climbs through the sanctuary past the Treasury of the Athenians, built after the victory at Marathon in 490 BC, to the Temple of Apollo, where the Pythia gave her prophecies. Above it are the 4th century BC theater, with about 5,000 seats and views across the valley, and the stadium at the very top of the site.
Below the main site lies the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia with its round Tholos, the most photographed monument in Delphi, and the Castalian Spring, where pilgrims purified themselves before consulting the oracle.
The Delphi Archaeological Museum
The museum holds the finds from the sanctuary, including the bronze Charioteer, cast around 475 BC, the Sphinx of the Naxians, the twin kouroi of Argos and the sculpted frieze of the Siphnian Treasury. Allow about 2 hours for the site and museum together, more if you want to climb to the stadium and walk down to Athena Pronaia.
💡 From our experience: Day trip coaches from Athens reach Delphi in late morning. Arrive at opening time if you can, visit the site first while it is cool, and save the air-conditioned museum for the hottest part of the day. The site is steep with little shade, so wear closed shoes.
Arachova and the Olive Groves of Amfissa
Ten minutes from Delphi, the stone-built village of Arachova is known for formaela cheese, handwoven rugs and local wine, and in winter it becomes the base for skiing on Mount Parnassus. Below Delphi, the olive groves of Amfissa run unbroken down to the Gulf of Corinth. Our day tour stops at a family farm here for an olive oil tasting and a lunch made from what the farm grows.
Best Time to Visit Delphi
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September and October) offer mild weather and the greenest views over the valley. July and August are hot and busy, so an early start matters. In winter the site is quieter and Parnassus is often covered in snow, but opening hours are shorter from November onwards.
How to Get to Delphi from Athens
Delphi is about 180 km from Athens, roughly 2.5 hours by road via Livadia. There is no train, and public KTEL buses from Athens take about 3 hours with limited departures. A private day trip from Athens is the most practical option, with hotel pick-up and time at the site on your own schedule.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Delphi worth visiting?
Yes. Delphi combines one of the most important sanctuaries of the ancient world with one of the best archaeological museums in Greece and a mountain setting above a valley of olive trees.
Can Delphi be visited in one day from Athens?
Yes. A private day trip takes about 8 hours, including around 5 hours of driving, 2 hours at the site and museum, and a lunch stop.
Can I combine Delphi and Meteora?
Yes, but Meteora is another 3 hours north of Delphi, so we recommend at least one night. Our 2 day Delphi and Meteora tour includes sunset over the rocks and the monasteries the next morning.
Do I need a guide at Delphi?
Only state-licensed guides may guide inside Greek archaeological sites. A licensed guide can be added at checkout on all our Delphi tours, and most guests who add one tell us the site makes far more sense with the explanations.
