Athens Local Guides

Licensed Private Tour Guides in Athens - Meet Our Team

A tour of Athens is only as good as the person telling the story. That is why we work only with licensed local guides - professionals certified by the Greek state after formal training in archaeology, history, and art, the only people legally permitted to guide inside archaeological sites like the Acropolis.
But a license is the starting point, not the whole story. The guides we work with live in this city, know which corner of the Ancient Agora catches the morning light, and have answered ten thousand questions from travelers just like you. Below you will meet some of them by name, each with a different specialty and style.
Match the guide to your interests, or tell us what kind of traveler you are and we will make the match for you.

How do I choose the right guide?

Start with what excites you most. History and archaeology at their deepest? That is Costas. Food, markets, and everyday Athenian life? Maria. Mythology told as stories your children will retell for years? Christina. A balanced first visit with highlights and hidden corners? Vassilis.
Not sure? Tell us your interests, your group, and your dates when you book, and we will make the match - it is what we have been doing since 2010.

What languages do our guides speak?

All our Athens guides are fluent in English. Licensed guides working in other languages, including French, German, Spanish, and Italian, are available on request - tell us your preferred language when you book. For less common languages, we recommend booking as early as possible, especially between June and September.

What Our Guests Say

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"Our guide made the Acropolis make sense. We had visited before with a big group and remembered nothing; this time we walked away understanding how the whole ancient city fit together."
- Paul & Eline R., couple from the USA

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"The mythology walk was the highlight of the trip for our kids. Two weeks later they were still retelling the story of Athena and Poseidon at the dinner table."
- Claire C., family from France

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"We asked for a guide who could go deep on archaeology and got exactly that. Every question we asked had a real answer behind it, not a memorized line."
- Stece K., traveller from Germany

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Athens local guides licensed?
Yes. In Greece, tour guides are licensed by the state after formal training in archaeology, history, and art, and by law only licensed guides may conduct tours inside archaeological sites such as the Acropolis. Every guide we work with holds this certification.

Can I request a specific guide?
Yes - if you would like to tour with Costas, Maria, Christina, Vassilis, or another guide you have toured with before, tell us when you book and we will do our best to arrange it, subject to availability. Booking early helps, especially in peak season.

Can I book a private guide without a vehicle?
Absolutely. Many guests book a guide for a private walking tour and meet at the site entrance or their hotel. If you prefer door-to-door comfort or want to add Cape Sounion and the Athens Riviera, we combine your guide with a private Mercedes and driver.

Can our guide meet us at our cruise ship in Piraeus?
Yes - your guide can meet you at the Piraeus cruise terminal or at the Acropolis entrance, and the tour is always planned around your ship's all-aboard time.

How many people can join the private tour?
Our tours are 100% private - just your group, no strangers ever added. Walking tours work beautifully for individuals, couples, and families; for larger private groups, organizations, and travel programs we arrange additional licensed guides so every guest hears every word. Contact us with your group size and we will plan accordingly.

What is your cancellation policy?
We offer free cancellation up to 48 hours before the tour start time for a full refund.
